Barnes targets top of the tree

HARVEY Barnes believes Christmas momentum can fire Albion into a Sky Bet Championship automatic promotion berth.

The skilful winger netted his ninth goal of the campaign as the Baggies brushed aside Rotherham on Saturday to record a fourth successive away victory, extending their unbeaten run to seven games.

And Barnes says the busy festive schedule presents Darren Moore’s men, who currently sit third in the table, with the opportunity to propel themselves up to the top two.

“It’s massive to keep that momentum going in this league,” admitted Barnes.

“You want to pick up as many points as you can and when you get on a good run you need to keep that going.

“We’re feeling confident at the moment because of those results, plus we got another clean sheet, which is a big boost. That’s an area we know we need to work on but it was great for us to get one on Saturday at Rotherham.

“Once again we’ve scored four goals which is impressive. Going forward we look dangerous all the time and we’ve been clinical.

“We’ve got a lot of games coming up, with one every three or four days, so the more points we can pick up during this period the better.

“You can soon create a little gap or catch up with the leaders so that’s what we’ll aim to do.”
