Darren pleased to keep core

DARREN Moore has expressed his delight at keeping the core of Albion's squad together for the 2018/19 Sky Bet Championship season.

The Baggies welcomed Sam Johnstone, Jonathan Bond, Kyle Bartley, Conor Townsend, Harvey Barnes and Dwight Gayle to the fold, with just four first-team players departing The Hawthorns on permanent transfers.

It means our Head Coach achieved his main objective; retaining the majority of his prize assets.

And now the real hard work can begin.

"We wanted to keep the lads together," said Darren. "The window is closed and they're still in the building.

"That can only be a plus factor for us.

"It's something we wanted to do at the football club from the outset.

"The important thing for us now is to let everything settle down and get some hard work in."

And the Baggies boss still hasn't ruled out further additions via the loan market which remains open until Friday, August 31.

Darren added: "We're still looking to strengthen the squad.

"The loan window is open so we'll continue to look to add to what we have in the building."
