Darren: Form guide irrelevant

DARREN Moore remains wary of a QPR side yet to pick up a point in the 2018/19 Sky Bet Championship.

The Baggies have enjoyed an upturn in fortune since a sobering start to live in the second tier.

Defeat to Bolton was followed by a creditable point at Nottingham Forest and victory against Norwich City.

"I'm really pleased with the week thus far," said Darren.

"To win at Norwich and follow that up with a good cup performance is pleasing.

"I was happy with how the players applied themselves and went about it. There were some younger players on show who did themselves no harm.

"But you don't get much chance to harbour on them because we've got another important game tomorrow.

"We're still working towards getting better. But the mood around the place is very good at the moment."

It was the 2-1 reverse to Wanderers on the opening day which gave a jolt to the Albion faithful. But our Head Coach has been buoyed by a bit of momentum.

"It'll be important to get that first home win," Darren nodded.

"I've spoken before about building momentum and consistency. It can carry you a long way.

"We've come off the back of difficult away games - Forest and Norwich - so we've managed to build some momentum and a feel-good factor.

"We want to kick-off our home campaign tomorrow against QPR."

But the gaffer isn't resting on his laurels after back-to-back victories.

Saturday's visitors have lost both games so far. But the form guide is irrelevant in this league, Darren insists.

He added: "You never look at the form guide, you look at the team on the day.

"They've lost their first two fixtures but they'll see this as a chance to put that right.

"They'll be well organised. Steve [McClaren] is a fantastic man and a wonderful coach with vast experience.

"He knows what he's stepping into The Hawthorns to face.

"We'll have to be at our best."
