McClean hails attacking duo

JAMES McClean has heaped praise on the in-form strike partnership of Jay Rodriguez and Salomon Rondon ahead of this weekend’s trip to Newcastle United.

The duo have made an enormous contribution to the three-match unbeaten run that the Baggies have put together under Darren Moore, and have also scored six goals between them in Albion’s last six outings.

“They’re chipping in and they’re getting goals,” said James.

“On Saturday Jake Livermore got himself a goal from midfield as well. From us midfielders, I know there’s only three games left now, but we need to try and get as many goals throughout the team as we can.

“But it obviously helps when your strikers are putting away the chances too.”

Saturday’s opponents Newcastle had won four matches in a row, risen up into the top half of the table and gone over the 40-point mark before they were defeated by Everton earlier in the week.

But despite their good form McClean is insisting that his Albion team-mates are ready for the “battle” that awaits them when they head up to St James’ Park.

“Rafa Benitez has done a great job. I watched the game against Everton the other night and they seem very hard to break down and they also pose a threat going forward,” he added.

“They’re safe now and they’ve had a great season, especially from December onwards.

“We know the task ahead, especially going there too because it’s very noisy, they’re very passionate and it’s a big stadium.

“So we’ll have a battle on our hands but with the results in the last couple of weeks we’re going there with confidence and hopefully we can build on the last few games.”
