Southampton vs Albion match preview

ALBION travel to Southampton on Saturday evening as they look to build on Monday night's draw at Leicester.

The opposition

Southampton currently sit one place and one point behind The Baggies in the Premier League table in 11th. From their eight matches so far, they’ve recorded two wins, three draws and three losses.

New manager Mauricio Pellegrino joined The Saints in the summer from Spanish side Alaves, who he guided to a 9th place finish in La Liga as well as a Copa del Rey final last season.

He made a number of signings during the transfer window, including Jan Bednarek from Lech Poznan, Mario Lemina from Juventus and Wesley Hoedt from Lazio.

Last time out

The last meeting between the teams was in April, with Southampton running out 1-0 winners at The Hawthorns.

However, the most recent match at St Mary’s was on New Years Eve in 2016 when Albion overcame a Shane Long opener to win 2-1 thanks to goals from Matt Phillips and Hal Robson-Kanu.

The gaffers

Pulis on Southampton form

"They're a good footballing team. Pellegrino has come in with his own ideas and the way he wants to play.

"From watching them in a couple of games away from St Mary's they seem a little more relaxed. They look a little more uptight at home.

Pellegrino identifies Albion's strengths

"We know that West Brom are really strong physically, and dangerous from set plays and on the counter-attack.

"That's something we've been working on this week. Every single week we are learning from our last few games, and I feel that my players are better prepared."
