Pulis provides Evans update

Albion await news on Nyom

ALBION will assess the fitness of Jonny Evans later this week before finalising their plans for the Premier League clash with Sunderland at The Hawthorns on Saturday (ko 3pm).

But the Baggies cannot be sure teammate Allan Nyom will be available with the subject of his international clearance now in the hands of FIFA.

Evans missed the defeat at Tottenham on Saturday owing to a calf injury.

“It’s difficult to say with Jonny,” said head coach Tony Pulis when asked about the defender’s chances of returning to action against the Black Cats.

“We were not expecting him to miss the Spurs game so we’re taking nothing for granted.

“It’s a different injury to his earlier problem but it is in the same area as his calf.

“We will have to wait and see.”

Albion were without Nyom for the second successive fixture following the defender’s non-selection in the Cameroon squad for the Africa Cup of Nations.

The club confirmed that the Cameroonian Football Federation have now the lodged the issue at FIFA and Baggies officials will be pressing for as swift a resolution as possible.

Meanwhile, Pulis said that the club continue to make determined efforts to add to the squad before the January transfer window closes.

“It is always difficult but everyone is working very hard and doing all they can to bring in one or two,” he said.

“It is important that we sign players who can improve us. It’s got to be right for the club’s progress.”
