Liverpool v Albion match preview

ALBION travel up to Merseyside on Wednesday night as they take on Liverpool in a Premier League clash at Anfield (ko 8pm).

The opposition

Liverpool currently sit fourth in the table on 30 points from their 16 games having recorded eight wins, six draws and two losses so far.

The Reds qualified for the Champions League by finishing fourth last time around in Jurgen Klopp’s first full season in charge, and topped their group to set up a two-legged tie against Porto in the new year.

They brought in the likes of Mohamed Salah, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Andrew Robertson and Dominic Solanke over the summer - and also managed to keep hold of important players such as Philippe Coutinho.

Last time out

The most recent game between the two teams was in April when Liverpool ran out 1-0 winners at The Hawthorns thanks to Roberto Firmino’s goal.

Klopp’s men also won the last meeting at Anfield as strikes from Sadio Mane and Coutinho were enough to hand them a 2-1 win despite Gareth McAuley’s late effort.

From the archive

Here are the highlights from a memorable 2-2 draw against Liverpool back in December 2015.

Head to head

The head-to-head record doesn't make for particularly good reading if you’re an Albion fan.

Of the 148 matches between the teams, Albion have won 38 times, Liverpool have won on 68 occasions and there have also been 42 draws.

The gaffers

Alan Pardew on Liverpool

"It's a game that as players you have to look forward to and it's a venue (Anfield) that you dream of playing at when you're growing up.

"They do have weaknesses and it's whether you can exploit them, so that's something we've got to try and do.

Klopp on fitness issues

“We have a few knocks, but nothing serious long-term. One or two it’s possible the time is not enough for the West Brom game. We have to see.

“Adam Lallana is good. He trains completely normal. We need him for the next weeks. We should not need him for tomorrow, but we need to see how we can bring him into match fitness.

Man in the middle

Paul Tierney will be the referee for Wednesday’s clash, and he’ll be assisted by Constantine Hatzidakis and Mick McDonough with Neil Swarbrick as the fourth official.

Tierney has officiated just one Baggies match so far this campaign - the goalless draw against West Ham back in September.

Ticket news

Albion’s away allocation for the match is SOLD OUT.
