INTERNATIONALS: Young England duo earn victories

Galloway and Leko feature for Three Lions

YOUNG duo Brendan Galloway and Jonathan Leko helped their respective England youth sides to friendly victories on Thursday.

Left-back Galloway played 90 minutes as the Under-21 group recorded a 3-2 win over Italy at St. Mary’s Stadium, a result which extended their unbeaten run to 15 games.

Demarai Gray, Lewis Baker and Jack Stephens were all on target for the Three Lions.

Galloway was unfortunate to see a cross from the right ricochet off his shin and loop into the top corner early in the first half, with Federico di Francesco also on the scoresheet for the Azzurri.

Meanwhile, winger Jonathan Leko completed 63 minutes for the Under-18 side who beat Poland 2-0 at the Lamex Stadium.

Sheffield Wednesday striker George Hirst scored twice as Neil Dewsnip’s men secured a comfortable win.

Midfielder Sam Field was an unused substitute for the Under-19 side as they defeated Luxembourg 2-0 in Rhyl.

Stephy Mavididi and Ryan Sessegnon goals ensured England, managed by Albion’s former assistant head coach Keith Downing, got off to a winning start in UEFA Under-19 Championship qualifying.
