Sporting Club Albion Ladies prepare for City test

Cup journey continues for Ladies

SPORTING Club Albion Ladies continue their SSE Women's FA Cup adventure with their biggest challenge so far - a quarter-final trip to Manchester City.

The FA Womens Northern Premier League team, managed by Graham Abercrombie have enjoyed a brilliant cup run, starting with a 3-0 victory against Long Eaton in their opening game.

They went onto beat Coventry United 1-0 before seeing off tricky opponents Sheffield.

Last weekend's 4-3 victory at Brighton & Hove Albion put them into hat for the final eight.

And now Abercrombie's side must take on Manchester City Women at the Academy Stadium on April 3 (KO 2pm) for a challenge against some of the nation's finest players.

City have one of the largest budgets in the Women's game but Albion are ready to compete against the best.

"This has been a fantastic journey," said Abercrombie.

"We've been resilient in defence, gritty in midfield and full of quality and energy up front.

"It would be unfair to single anyone out - it's been a brilliant performance by the entire squad.

"Manchester City is a brilliant challenge and experience for our Ladies side. City are full of players in the England camp, while we're players who simply camp in England - it will be a fantastic day for all of us."
