McManaman aiming for Sunderland return

Winger comes through 45 minutes of friendly game

CALLUM McManaman hopes to make the bench for Saturday's game at Sunderland after coming through 45 minutes in yesterday's U21s' friendly.

McManaman was one of seven senior players involved during the opening half of Albion's behind-closed-doors game against Burnley, which ended 0-0.

It was the winger's first game time of any sort since he picked up an ankle ligament injury in January.

He said afterwards: "It was my first game back and I felt good. I've trained for just under a week and it’s going well.

"I could have played longer - I played the opening 45 minutes and I did a 4 x 4 yesterday morning so it was probably the equivalent of a full game.

"I hope to be back for the weekend, certainly for the bench."

On his injury, McManaman added: "It was my left ankle ligaments but I've done them before so I know how to deal with it and how to get back.

"It's a good period to come back. There is less pressure on us now and I want to prove myself if I get the chance.

"It would be great to have a good end to the season - there are still many more points for us to play for."
