FLETCHER: We have a “never-say-die” attitude

Skipper offers his views after Stamford Bridge draw

DARREN Fletcher praised Albion’s “never-say-die attitude” after Wednesday night’s deserved point at the home of the champions.

The brave and battling Baggies twice came from behind to earn a draw at Stamford Bridge, thanks to special strikes from Craig Gardner and then James McClean with less than five minutes left on the clock.

It was the third successive game in which Tony Pulis’ side have struck late on, following Jonny Evans’ injury-time winner against Stoke and James Morrison’s leveller with the final kick in the FA Cup clash with Bristol City.

The skipper was again delighted with Albion’s display, and reserved a special mention for the character within the squad.

“I thought it was a fantastic performance against Chelsea,” said Fletcher.

“We have a never say die attitude at the moment.

“We showed great character to come from behind yet again to take something from the game.

“I’d like to see us go in front and not have to chase the game, but it is a great sign that we keep digging in right to the end.

“Credit has to go to the lads, we have an honest, hard-working group of players.

“We had a tough pre-season so our fitness is very good, but our desire to do well is very strong too.

“Our form recently has been great.

“It’s a great result to come here to Stamford Bridge and take a point and we can now look forward to Southampton on Saturday.”
