Youngsters in derby action at Molineux
ALBION’S Under-21 side will be looking to maintain their 100% start to the season when they face local rivals Wolves on Saturday (ko 3pm).
The Baggies sit joint top of the Barclays U21 Premier League division two, having enjoyed victories over Swansea, West Ham and Blackburn in their opening three games.
Under-21 boss James Shan expects a fiery derby-day atmosphere, but says the challenge for the players will be to keep their emotions in check.
“We are on a magnificent winning run and it would be great to extend it on Saturday,” said Shan.
“No doubt the elements of a derby will be present.
“Every time we have played Wolves at this level there has been a real competitive edge, so we have to make sure the boys are prepared for that.
“It’s a game that could well be fuelled by emotion and we must keep our heads.
“We have to ensure we stick to the gameplan and not get carried away with the derby atmosphere.
“They will want to have plenty of the ball and play some attractive stuff, which is very similar to our style.
“It could be a very open game, but like I have said before it is our job to make sure it isn’t like that because open games are always very dangerous.”
