G-Mac lets rip at his pet hates
WELCOME to the latest edition of Red Card.
This is our very own Room 101 where early baths are the norm, where all things bad are given their marching orders, where there are no second chances and... we think you get the drift.
This week our guest is Gareth McAuley. Yes, that's McAuley. Not Dawson.
Rule in Football?
The double whammy one - where you get done for a penalty AND a red card when denying a goalscoring opportunity. There is a lot of talk about changing that because it is a double punishment. I'd go for that...
Part of the game?
I'd scrap pre-season. I'd like to just stay ticking over. It's always tough doing that because you don't have a competitive game to look forward. It's often a six or seven week period of anticipation before you kick a ball properly. I don't like that.
Away day experience?
I hate the wait in the morning when it's match day. It's not so bad for early kick-offs but for normal games once you've had breakfast you just want to get on with it - not that I'd want early kick-offs every week. But that period from breakfast to kick-off definitely gets the red card from me.
Team-mate's fashion sense?
Dawson! He's got sponsorship with adidas and I think he's trying to wear their whole range this season but I also think that's down to him not wanting to spend any of his own money.
Team-mates' taste in music?
There are all sorts...but Cristian and Claudio - some of the music those boys listen to...I can't even describe it. They're singing along, bouncing along to it. It's pretty bad to be honest.
Snooker. I like playing snooker but watching it as a spectator is not for me. It's so slow. It's like watching paint drying. It's skillful, hard to play...but I don't want to watch it.
All of these reality TV shows really grate on me. You can't move for them - there's no escaping.
Lesson at school?
I was quite good at school but I was poor at languages. I'd give that the red card because I was poor at them,...but I wished I'd been better at them.
My missus' dad went to Austria and stayed in some place where he got bitten by bed-bugs. I'm otherwise okay with creepy-crawlies - though I'm not keen on rats - but bed bugs would concern me a bit after his experience.
I hate lying-in when I don't need to. When my eyes open, I like to get up. I don't understand people who just lie in bed once awake.
Getting there and getting back. I just want to be there. I seem to be unlucky with airports - if there's a flight that's delayed, it'll be my flight. Just get me to where I need to be.
