Head coach praises Albion players following Villa win
ALBION fans, that one was for you...
That was the message from Tony Pulis after this afternoon's 1-0 victory at Villa Park, which saw the Baggies climb into the top half of the Barclays Premier League table.
Pulis joined his players in the post-game celebrations and a point of acknowledging the 2800 plus away following.
Speaking about the win, Pulis said:
Last year the two games (back-to-back defeats at Villa Park) were a real kick in the teeth.
We needed to come here and win for our supporters, if nothing else.
And I feel we did that.
This is the best team performance (of the season) by a mile. I said on Thursday that if we could take how we train into the game then we would have a good day.
The lads have looked good all week. They were looking forward to the game and I'm pleased they took that training into the game.
On the overall display and Saido Berahino's winning goal, he added:
The biggest thing is that this week we've been able to work with our players. The transfer window has been an absolute nightmare for this club, not just Saido but all the players.
And once that's closed and settled down you lose your players to international duty. We had them for one day before Southampton so this was the first week we were able to do some work with them properly and work on set-plays, the shape, what we want to do and what we don't want to do.
Saido isn't fit yet - he's miles off in terms of where we want him to be. There are certain things he does that shows he's different - he's got quality in his passing, his touch is good, his movement is good and he scores goals.
He needs to get his head down and concentrate on what he does best - play football.
