Skipper not surprised by defender's start
ALBION picked up one of the 'best defenders in the Premier League' when they signed Jonny Evans.
That's the verdict of Baggies captain Darren Fletcher who wasted no time in delivering a glowing reference to Tony Pulis when Albion first began their pursuit of the defender.
Evans, who shares the car journey to the training ground each day with Fletcher, has impressed in his opening two games for the club, helping Albion to clean sheets against Southampton and Villa.
Designated driver 'Fletch' is not surprised.
"I told him (Tony Pulis) Jonny was a top class defender and, if there was any chance of us signing him, to do all he could to get him here," Fletcher said.
"I rate him very, very highly.
"We had two world class centre halves at Manchester United in Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand yet Jonny went toe to toe with them for a number of years.
"He is a real top class player, he's a good talker, a good leader and one of the best defenders in the league – he merely suffered with injuries at United.
"He's played two games for us and been excellent. He's not even fully fit yet - when he is we will have one of the best defenders in the Premier League."
