Fanzone launches this Saturday

7 September 2015

Fanzone opens at midday ahead of Saints clash

WELCOME to Fanzone week with the Baggies as we build up to the launch of the new supporter-dedicated area at The Hawthorns.

The famous old Halfords Lane and Hawthorns pub site will take its bow in a new era before Saturday's game against Southampton (3pm ko) as the setting for the Club’s first-ever Fanzone.

There will be live music, big screen TV, games and family fun on offer at the licensed site from midday to provide a vibrant and entertaining build up to kick-off.

All this week here on we will be telling you about what you can look forward come Saturday's launch.

It follows the rescue and rebuild of the iconic Hawthorns pub building, which had fallen derelict before its purchase by Albion in 2009 but has now been fully restored.

The Club can also confirm that the building will shortly become a 24:7 High Street bakery outlet for Greggs following a leasing agreement.

It won’t be open this weekend because the popular food-on-the-go retailers have only just started their own interior refit which will be in keeping with the heritage of a building which dates back to 1840.

But once completed – and the plan is for doors to open for the first time on a matchday before the Sunderland game on October 17 – the Greggs outlet will become another Fanzone feature to savour.

Albion hope the Fanzone will provide a gathering point for supporters of all ages to soak up the matchday atmosphere. Entrance will be free on production of a ticket for the game and will remain open for an hour after the final whistle.

“We will learn more as we go along,” says Mark Miles, Albion’s Head of Facility Operations and Development.

“It’s a new venture for us and will be like a ‘work in progress’ as we discover more and listen to the supporters. But it’s an exciting moment.

“We are all trying to come up with ways of getting supporters at the stadium earlier and this is one of them.”

Stay with us all this week to find out more about what we have in store for the Fanzone’s first big day out on Saturday.
