May 11, 2003: Farewell to a hero
Albion 2 Newcastle United 2
IT was the final farewell for Super Bob Taylor, limping out of the last game of an illustrious Albion career after 31 minutes.
Out of the first team running since the previous October, Taylor was suddenly handed a shock recall to the colours on the morning of the last game of the season, but what could have been an emotional day was spoiled when the ring rusty goalscorer twisted his knee and was forced to limp off, just days before he was to celebrate his testimonial game at The Hawthorns.
Bob did return to his spiritual home for that last testimonial, playing much of it in goal, while Albion greats past and present, including Bryan Robson, came to The Hawthorns to pay homage to an Albion legend.
