All I want for Christmas is a Dukla Prague away kit…
Stanford University, California,
May 18 1969
At the end of the 1968/69 season, Albion went on their customary end-of-season tour, this time taking in games in Canada and California. Whoever booked the game with Dukla Prague for the 85,500 seater Stanford University stadium in Palo Alto, home of the Stanford Cardinals, was rather over optimistic about soccer’s appeal in the US as this picture of the cavernous stadium shows.
The Throstles went on to win 2-1, both goals from Ryszard Krzywicki, the Albion side especially notable since it featured an early appearance from a young Gordon Nisbet in goal.
Nisbet went on to play over 160 senior games for the Baggies. At right-back.
