Baggies held by Brighton at The Lamb
JAMES Shan was left a frustrated manager last night as his Under-21 side missed the chance to go five points clear at the top of the Barclays U21 Premier League division two table.
The Baggies were held to a 1-1 draw by Brighton at The Lamb, with the visitors snatching a late equaliser through Daniel Akindayini after Shaun Donnellan had nodded the hosts ahead.
Albion travel to second-placed Arsenal for a top of the table clash on Friday, and Shan has warned his players that they need to dominate games for longer periods.
The Under-21 boss said: “The draw is really frustrating because we have missed an opportunity to go clear at the top of the league.
“It would have been fantastic to make a statement in the league but sadly that wasn’t to be.
“My message to the boys after the game was that we can’t play in spells.
“I was disappointed with our intensity levels at times, we haven’t competed at the levels we know we are capable of.
“I want us to be dominant for longer periods in games.
“Brighton came with a game-plan and they executed it really well.
“Mooro has a great phrase, saying that if you can’t win the game then you must not lose it and we have managed that, but the kick in the teeth is that we conceded a sloppy goal late on.
“We need to be better for longer periods of time on Friday at Arsenal.”
