INTERNATIONALS: Gamboa scores winner for Costa Rica

14 November 2015

James McClean helps Republic of Ireland to 1-1 draw

Cristian Gamboa scored the only goal of the game as Costa Rica defeated Haiti in a World Cup qualifier.

The Baggies man, who completed 90 minutes in San Jose, smashed the ball home from close range after Johnny Placide could only parry Johan Venegas’ strike.

James McClean replaced Wes Hoolahan in the 60th minute as Ireland held Bosnia & Herzegovina to a 1-1 draw in the first-leg of their EURO 2016 play-off.

The visitors looked set to be travelling home with a 1-0 lead after Robbie Brady scored with less than ten minutes remaining, but Edin Dzeko equalised for his nation in the 85th minute.

The teams now head for Dublin where the second-leg will take place on Monday night.

Jonny Evans and Gareth McAuley both completed 90 minutes in Belfast, as Northern Ireland overcame Latvia 1-0 in a friendly thanks to Steven Davis’ second-half strike.

James Chester played the whole game in Cardiff where his Wales side suffered a 3-2 defeat at the hands of the Netherlands.

Joe Ledley and Emyr Huws goals weren’t enough to stop Chris Coleman’s team slipping to a loss in their first fixture since qualifying for EURO 2016.

Bas Dost and Arjen Robben (2) were on target for the visitors.

Serge Gnabry completed the first-half of Germany’s 3-1 win over Azerbaijan in EURO Under-21 qualifying.

Magsad Isayev gave the away side a shock lead on the half-hour mark, but goals from Timo Werner and Max Arnold ensured the favourites went in in front at the break.

Werner then grabbed his second in the 63rd minute as Germany recorded a comfortable victory in Regensburg.
