Northern Ireland star praises centre-half partner
JONNY Evans described Jonas Olsson’s performance in Albion’s 2-1 win over title-chasing Arsenal as “excellent”.
The Sweden international, who was stepping in for the suspended Gareth McAuley, defended courageously alongside his centre-half partner as the Baggies weathered the Gunners’ second-half siege.
It was the duo’s first full 90 minutes together at the heart of the backline, and Evans was full of praise for his team-mate following his impressive display.
He said: “I thought Jonas played really well, he was excellent.
“Arsenal are a very good side who like to move the ball quickly, so to come into the team and be up to the speed of the game instantly was admirable.
“He is a very intelligent player and he coped with their attacking threat very well.
“It’s good to have competition for places, not just in defence but all over the pitch.
“We have competition for places all over the pitch and that helps push the squad on.”
