Youngsters claim narrow win in Wales
KYLE Edwards’ strike was enough to earn a 1-0 victory over Cardiff City, sending Albion’s Under-21 side through to the last-16 of the Barclays U21 Premier League Cup.
The encounter, which was played in horrendous conditions at the Cardiff International Sports Stadium, was a typically tight knock-out affair.
It was the Baggies who grabbed the only goal of the night – Edwards smashing the ball into the bottom corner from the edge of the penalty area in the 32nd minute.
The Bluebirds wasted two good opportunities in the final 15 minutes and were unfortunate to have an injury-time equaliser ruled out for offside.
Speaking after the match, Edwards was relieved to see his team come through a difficult tie in unforgiving conditions in Wales.
“We are obviously delighted to get through to the next round of the cup,” said the goalscorer.
“The conditions were awful and that made it difficult for both teams, but thankfully we managed to get the win.
“I am pleased to have scored the winner, it’s always a nice feeling to score such an important goal especially one that sends us into the last-16.
“The result means we keep our unbeaten run going and confidence is really high in the group.”
