Baggies take on Royals at Madejski Stadium
ALBION Under-21s face Reading at the Madejski Stadium tonight (ko 7pm) in their final Barclays U21 Premier League fixture of the season.
James Shan’s side are locked in a battle with Arsenal for fourth spot – the Gunners host Wolves at home on Monday night needing to better Baggies’ result against the Royals to leapfrog them.
The youngsters are in impressive form and are unbeaten in their last four games, drawing against Stoke and Derby while also claiming impressive victories over Arsenal and Newcastle.
And the Under-21 boss wants his team to ensure that they head into next season on the back of an undefeated run.
“It’s been an emotional rollercoaster of a season but also a very good one for us,” said Shan.
“We are on a nice little run at the moment, having gone four league games unbeaten.
“We travel to Reading wanting to keep that run going and to be able to finish the season with three points.
“We obviously have our sights set on finishing fourth as well, so our players will be focused on that.
“It would be fantastic for the boys to come back in July on the back of finishing the previous season with a five game unbeaten run and in fourth spot in the league.
“The whole group, the players, the coaching staff, the medical staff and everyone who has been involved with the team in some way have been excellent, but we need to ensure we finish the job the tonight.”
