Lescott wins Supporters' award
NEXT week we will be bringing you the results of the fans and players polls for the end-of-the-season awards.
But Joleon Lescott has set the pace with a stand-out salute last night from the club’s official Supporters' Club groups.
They gathered at The Hawthorns for their annual dinner and to kick off the awards season where Lescott, the pick of the Kidderminster, Sutton Coldfield and Redditch branches, was also the main branch winner as Player of the Season.
He was joined on the podium by a cluster of team mates however – including the club’s two longest serving players.
James Morrison was the Player of the Year choice of the Walsall and Manchester branches while ‘Brunty’ was the pick of the London branch.
You can be sure that both players also figured – or would have done had time permitted – in another category.
The Goal of the Season must have seen ‘Mozza’ collect some votes for his thrilling spectacular against West Ham in the FA Cup. And had the voting stretched into the final week, surely Brunt’s wonderful thunderbolt which sealed Monday’s victory over Chelsea would have been a strong contender?
But as it turned the goal of the campaign according to the supporter groups was...Stephane Sessegnon’s fabulous finish in the 2-2 draw with Manchester United earlier in the season.
What else did we discover? Adil Nabi was on hand to collect his Young Player of the Year and the top goalscorer award was obviously handed to Saido Berahino.
All the players were there to pick up their momentoes, watched by Head Coach Tony Pulis and his assistant Dave Kemp who were given a spontaneous and rousing reception by 250 guests as they made an unannounced arrival at the dinner.
So that’s the supporter clubs awards dealt with – but what about your votes through our social media channels? And who did the players select as their Player of the Season?
Watch this space next week and all will be revealed…
