These are a few of my favourite things – Ben Foster

2 March 2015

The World Cup, Bacon sarnies wrapped in foil, Maths and much more

THIS week we grill our England international 'keeper Ben Foster.

So, Fozzy, what is your favourite…?

Moment in football?

I have two if that is ok? One was playing in a World Cup for England and keeping a clean sheet against Costa Rica, and the second is winning the Carling Cup with Birmingham City.

Save you have ever made?

I would have to say saving Steven Gerrard’s penalty at Anfield in front of the Kop a couple of seasons ago. We were going through a bit of a rut at the time and I remember making the stop and then a few minutes later we went up the other end and scored.

Save you have ever seen?

There is one on YouTube of a ‘keeper where a player has passed it back to him over his head, he runs back towards his goal, dives and heads it on to the crossbar and then gets up and saves the rebound from about three-yards-out. It is ridiculous!

Game that you have been involved in?

The Carling Cup final for Birmingham against Arsenal, simply because we were given no chance at all and I had a really busy afternoon. To win a game of football in the last minute, regardless of the opposition or the fixture, is always special.

Player of all time?

My favourite outfield player is Paul Scholes, and my favourite ‘keeper is Peter Schmeichel.

Away ground?

Vicarage Road, Watford.

Football kit owned as a boy?

I had a Spurs top when I was younger, when Holsten sponsored them.

Pair of boots?

Adidas have just done a re-release of the Predator Accelerator’s. They are absolutely beautiful. I had them in 2002 and I still think that they are the best boots ever made.

World Cup memory?

Playing at the World Cup in the summer against Costa Rica and keeping a clean sheet. I also have some awesome shirts from the World Cup too. I have Luis Suarez’s second-half shirt from the Uruguay game, Pirlo’s shirt from the game against Italy and I also went into the kit man from Italy for Buffon’s shirt even though he didn’t play.

Childhood memory of football?

Just waking up on a Sunday morning where my Dad would have a Bacon sarnie in foil waiting for me and then driving off to somewhere in Warwickshire to go and play football.

Childhood memory?

Getting a pool table for Christmas one year.

Lesson at school?
