Team appeal for Albion fans to support them in showdown
SPORTING Club Albion Ladies have reached the Women’s County Cup final, after claiming a dramatic 2-1 victory in extra-time over Copsewood Coventry.
Steph Smith’s 116th minute strike sparked wild celebrations, and sent Albion through to their first final in the competition since 2012/13.
Albion took the lead in the first-half through an own goal, but Copsewood grabbed an equaliser shortly after the break.
With the game heading for penalties after a tense end to both the normal 90 minutes and then the majority of extra-time, Smith popped up to book her team’s place in the final with a shot that took a bobble in front of Copsewood’s ‘keeper.
It was a result which delighted Team Manager, Graham Abercrombie.
He said: “It was a fantastic effort by everyone involved with the team to reach the County Cup Final.
“I am absolutely buzzing for the players.”
SCA Ladies will now face local rivals, Coventry City, who have won the trophy in each of the previous four seasons, at Nuneaton Town’s Liberty Park on Thursday, May 7 (ko 7.30pm).
The team are appealing for as many fans as possible to head down to support them on their big day.
Well done ladies, and good luck in the final! Come on you Baggies!
