Baggies face Villa for FA Cup semi-final place
CRAIG Gardner has spoken of his desire to right the wrongs of Tuesday night and reward Albion’s legion of loyal fans with an FA Cup semi-final spot.
The Baggies looked to be heading for a share of the spoils in their midweek Barclays Premier League clash against Aston Villa until a penalty deep into stoppage time clinched victory for the hosts.
It was a tough blow to take for the visitors but they have got an immediate chance to rectify matters this evening when they return to Villa Park for an FA Cup quarter-final showdown (5.30pm ko).
And midfielder Gardner is determined to try and ensure Albion are the ones this time tasting success - in front of 6,500 travelling Throstles supporters.
“That’s what we need to do, that’s what we want to do, and that’s what we will do. We need to put it right,” he said.
“It was hard to take but we are lucky to be able to put it right on Saturday.
“The fans have stuck by us all season when times were tough, now things have got a bit better we want to give them something.
“We want a day out at Wembley. And that will be the icing on cake for them.”
Gardner added: “We are sitting nicely in the league, we have ten league games left. And a chance to go to Wembley.
“Tuesday night’s game is gone now, we cannot dwell on it, there’s another massive game now.
“We won’t look at it and think we’re safe. We will take every game as it comes.
“Saturday is a quarter-final of the FA Cup and we want to get to Wembley.”
