Albion to face Swansea in U21s opener

8 July 2015

New rules give Albion greater chance of promotion

ALBION's Under-21s will have two chances of promotion this coming season - after being handed an away trip to Swansea City for the opening game of the 2015/16 Barclays Under-21 Premier League campaign.

The Division 2 champions go up automatically, while teams positioned two to five will compete in a promotion play-off.

Under the new rules, the club that finishes second will host the club that ends the season in fifth. The third-placed club will be at home to the fourth-placed finishers. Both will be one-off games, with the winners competing in a play-off final to be played at the main stadium of the club who finished the season higher in the division.

James Shan's side will play their opener at Swansea's training ground on Monday August 10, 6.30pm kick-off.

The trip to Wales is followed by two home fixtures, against West Ham United (Monday August 17) and Blackburn Rovers (Monday August 24).

Those two matches will be played at The Lamb Ground in Tamworth, as will five more of Albion's U21 games.

The first derby of Albion's campaign will fall on Saturday September 12, against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux.
