Under-18s stung by late Chelsea leveller

21 January 2015

Josh Ezewele on target for Albion in 1-1 draw

ALBION’S Under-18s were cruelly denied all three points against the Barclays U18 Premier League southern section leaders Chelsea on Monday, after Ali Suljic netted a 90th minute equaliser for the away side.

Aaron Danks’ men took the lead against the run of play on the half-hour mark, as Jack Fitzwater superbly picked out Josh Ezewele with a searching long ball before the full-back confidently slotted past Blues’ ‘keeper Bradley Collins.

The visitors took control of the game in the second-half, but Albion stopper Matthew Hall produced a string of fine saves to keep his side’s lead intact.

But in the final minute, The Baggies’ brave resistance was finally broken when Chelsea centre-back Suljic powered a header into the corner to rescue a point for his side.

Albion: Hall, Ezewele, Hallahan, Sweeney, Fitzwater, McCourt, Scrivens (Cater 71’), Gannon, Wright, Elbouzedi, Miller (Edwards 71’)
Unused subs: Field, Moran, Gregory.
