Under-18s snatch last-gasp win at Leicester

12 January 2015

Own goal in final minute hands youngsters 2-1 win

AN own goal in stoppage time from Leicester midfielder Hamza Choudhury gifted Albion’s Under-18s a 2-1 win over their Midlands rivals in the Barclays U18 Premier League on Saturday.

After a bright start, Aaron Danks’ men eventually took the lead in the 25th minute when defender Danny Barbir tapped home from close-range.

The hosts equalised with just over 20 minutes to go as Danny Rowe was brought down inside the penalty area, but then picked himself up to send Baggies’ ‘keeper Ethan Ross the wrong way from the penalty spot.

However Albion weren’t to be denied victory, and in the final minute Andre Wright’s goal-bound shot was deflected into his own net by Choudhury - handing the visitors all three points.

Albion: Ross, Ezewele, McCourt, Gannon, Fitzwater, Barbir, Edwards (Scrivens 79’), Smith, Campbell, Wright, Hallahan (Cater 86’).
Unused Subs: Moran (GK), Field, Sweeney.
