Roofe on target as Under-21s are held at Newcastle

2 February 2015

Albion unlucky not to claim all three points

ALBION’S Under-21s were held to a 1-1 draw in this afternoon’s Barclays U21 Premier League division two clash at Newcastle United.

The Baggies - who would have risen to top spot in the table with a victory - controlled large parts of the encounter against a Magpies side which featured four first-team players, but were unable to find a winner despite creating a number of good chances.

The league leaders went ahead early on through Tom Heardman, who tapped home Jonas Guttierrez’s low cross from the right-hand side.

However, James Shan’s men deservedly hit back 22 minutes from time when Kemar Roofe converted Adil Nabi’s driven cross from the left.

The visitors ended the game strongly and were extremely unfortunate not to claim all three points, Adil Nabi hit both posts and Tyler Roberts’ header was superbly kept out by Newcastle ‘keeper Jak Alnwick.

Albion: Palmer, Atkinson, Smart, Birch, Howkins, Cleet, Roofe, S.Nabi (Jones 84’), Roberts, A.Nabi, Wedderburn (Leko 61’).
Unused subs: Ross, Pace, Barrow.
