James Shan's side held at Brighton
JONAS Olsson and Jason Davidson both played the full 90 minutes as The Baggies’ Under-21s were held to a goalless draw at Brighton yesterday.
A long-standing heel problem kept Sweden international Olsson out for four months, with his last action coming in the 3-2 Capital One Cup win over Hull City.
Davidson was making his first appearance back in Albion colours since returning home from Australia’s triumphant Asian Cup campaign.
James Shan’s men started brightly, and could have gone ahead after just four minutes only for Brighton ‘keeper Harry Doherty to deny Wales Under-16 forward Tyler Roberts from close range.
Adil Nabi then forced a superb fingertip save from Doherty, before Kemar Roofe headed straight at the stubborn Seagulls stopper.
After the break, George Cole tried his luck from long distance for the South-Coast side, and then Shamir Fenlon’s effort was saved by Baggies’ ‘keeper Alex Palmer.
Adil Nabi, Alex Jones and Roberts all had chances to win the game, but Albion were unable break the deadlock.
The result extends the youngster’s unbeaten run to eight league games in the Barclays U21 Premier League division 2, and leaves them just one point off the top of the table.
Albion: Palmer, Atkinson, Olsson, Davidson, Howkins, Birch, S. Nabi, A. Nabi, Roofe, Roberts, Barrow (Jones 60).
