Bomber receives model of his statue from the Club
SATURDAY'S game with Tottenham was unusual for Tony Brown because for once, he was not covering the game on local radio, but instead enjoying Chairman Jeremy Peace’s hospitality as guest of the Club.
Bomber and his wife Irene joined the Chairman and other guests for the game and was presented with a scale model of the statue that stands outside the East Stand.
The maquette is one of just a handful that was produced as part of the statue project and one which Tony himself used to approve the final version during the process.
“We both had a really enjoyable afternoon as guests of the Chairman on Saturday, and as he said himself at the end, it was even better because of the result and the way we played!
“It was great to be able to watch the game from the Directors’ Box and to be able to bring Irene along to the game too for a change. She usually has to sit and suffer listening to me on the radio at home!
“I’m absolutely thrilled to have the maquette. It was a lovely gesture from the Chairman to present it to me and it was great to be able to take it home.
“I shall always be grateful to him because others had talked about the statue in the past, but he was the one that actually made it happen.
“To have the maquette as well now is just the icing on the cake."
