Berahino on target in Under-21 defeat at West Ham

7 December 2015

Youngsters beaten 2-1 at Rush Green

SAIDO Berahino was on target for Albion’s Under-21 side at West Ham on Monday as the forward topped-up his match fitness.

The 22-year-old completed 90 minutes at Rush Green, where a 92nd minute winner from Martin Samuelsen condemned the Baggies to their first league defeat in 14 games.

Fellow senior players Cristian Gamboa and Serge Gnabry also gained valuable playing time, with the Costa Rica international completing the full game while the Arsenal loanee was substituted in the 84th minute.

After a goalless first-half, the hosts opened the scoring in the 52nd minute through Jaanai Gordon’s ferocious hit.

However, the Baggies responded well and were level on the hour-mark – Berahino’s clinical strike from the edge of the penalty area was too good for West Ham goalkeeper Sam Howes.

James Shan’s men looked to be heading for their 15th game without defeat in the Barclays Under-21 Premier League division two, but Martin Samuelsen found the back of the net in the second minute of injury time to win the match for his side.

ALBION: Rose, Gamboa, Fitzwater, Donnellan, Ezewele, Field (Elbouzedi 65), S.Nabi, Cleet, Gnabry (Roberts 84), Campbell (Leko 56), Berahino.

Unused subs: Palmer, McCourt.
