#AlbionAdvent: Johnston clowns around

6 December 2015

Day Six of our Christmas Advent Calendar

For today's #AlbionAdvent re-enactment, we take you back to a moment when frankly the mood was not good as our team toiled in the old Division Two at the tail end of 1974/75.

Willie Johnston was always the kind to lift spirits and at training one day, he idly promised: "I'll wear a clown's mask for the first-half to cheer this place up."

"Bet you wouldn't dare!" came the response.

He would. He did. Sort of. The referee made him take it off after the warm-up, but not before he'd won his bet.

Better times were ahead though. The mop of pre-permed hair behind Johnston belonged to a young Bryan Robson who was making his debut that day.

Our thanks to Daniel Morris for taking on that role as well as Archie Kirton, Jonathan Bland, Dylan Mitchell and - the boy behind the mask - Morgan Owen for taking up this picture challenge.
