Day 15 of our Christmas Advent Calendar
For today’s #AlbionAdvent Calendar recreation we go back to August 1997… and a derby Albion fans will always remember and one poor Keith Curle would love to forget.
It would be the former England defender’s fate to gift the Baggies a derby victory over his Wolves side and, as a result, pass into Hawthorns folklore for all the wrong reasons.
With goalkeeper Mike Stowell advancing to collect a seemingly harmless through ball, Curle stepped up to the mark to stroke the ball beyond him and into the gaping Smethwick End net, the only goal of the game.
Thanks to Tristan Bennett for wearing the old gold and black and reminding us of the back-pass that went so horribly wrong for Wolves and so right for Albion. The cheque’s in the post…
