Young Under-21 side to face Arsenal

Several Youth Team players included in squad

A young Albion Under-21 side will face Arsenal on Tuesday afternoon in the Barclays U21 Premier League (ko 1pm).

The encounter at the Baggies’ training ground will see a number of the club’s promising Under-18 players given further opportunities to impress James Shan and his coaching staff.

The youngsters earned a 1-1 draw at Stoke in their last encounter, with Youth Team forward Tahvon Campbell grabbing a deserved equaliser in the second-half.

And Shan admits that the clash against the Gunners will be a great chance for the same group of players to build on the point won at the Britannia.

He said: “The squad will consist largely of the same group that travelled to Stoke in our last game.

“Having the same group available gives the lads another taster of Under-21 football.

“A few of the younger lads have played a fair bit of Under-21 football this season, but some haven’t played much so they are all at different stages of their development.

“It’s a fantastic experience for them to sample.

“If they can get a few games in between now and the end of the season, they could find themselves ahead of the game at the start of next season in terms of having interest from other clubs to take them on loan.”

He added: “Arsenal are always a good side at any level and can boast some fantastic individual players.

“We have to approach it as we would any other game though and focus on what is best for us.

“I am confident that we will have enough quality in our changing room to cause them problems.

“We know they will be a good side and will be respectful of that, but we certainly won’t be fearing them.”
