These are a few of my favourite things – Callum McManaman

2 April 2015

Playing pranks, ‘Mr Martini’, Vegas and much more

JANUARY signing Callum McManaman is the latest Albion star to face our questions.

So, Callum, what is your favourite…?

Moment in football?

Definitely scoring against Everton in the FA Cup for Wigan back in 2013. They were the team that I used to play for and the team that I used to support so it was great.

Goal you have ever scored?

I’m going to have to say the same thing as I did for the first question. The goal against Everton in the FA Cup for Wigan.

Goal you have ever seen?

I was a ballboy behind the goal when Lee Carsley scored for Everton against Liverpool in the derby back in 2004. It wasn’t the best goal, but I got on TV on Soccer AM.

Game that you have been involved in?

The 2013 FA Cup final. It was a great day and for us (Wigan) to win it was amazing.

Player of all time?

Ronaldinho. When he has the ball he just beats men for fun. I love the way he is always smiling when he is on the pitch, even though that's not what I am like!

Away ground?

Anfield. I just love going there. Every time I go there I want to beat them so, so much.

Football kit owned as a boy?

That would definitely have to be an Everton one. The kit which had the shirt sponsor ‘one2one’ on the front of it, you couldn’t get me out of it when I was younger.

Pair of boots?

The old, old predators. I had one of the first pairs as a kid.

World Cup memory?

Michael Owen’s goal against Argentina in the 1998 World Cup in France. I remember him just taking on loads of their players and then scoring. I was in my mum’s living room going mental.

Childhood memory of football?

Duncan Ferguson scoring the winner for Everton against Man United at Goodison in 2005. I was at the game. I also used to love playing with my mates. There is a big field at the back of my mum’s house so they all used to come over and we would go through the gate and play for hours.

Favourite person at the club to play a prank on?

The Kitman Jacko. Me and Gards always have him up the wall playing pranks on him, which is always really funny.

Childhood memory?

Just being a little scally when I was a kid getting up to mischief and causing chaos with my mates.

Lesson at school?

I didn’t enjoy school so I can’t really say that I had a favourite lesson.

Animal?

I’m going to have to be boring and say dogs, puppies in particular. I’ve got a little Bichon Frise called ‘Mr Martini’. He is named after one of the actors in my favourite film.

Colour?

Blue.

Drink?

I love apple juice.

Meal?

Steak and chips.

Restaurant?

Anything that serves Spanish or Italian food. I enjoy tapas.

Chocolate bar?

Dairy Milk buttons.

Holiday destination?

It’s got to be Vegas. I have been a few times.

Movie?

One flew over the Cuckoo’s nest, it’s a cracking old film.

TV show?

Friends.

Sport other than football?

Boxing. Craig Gardner is big into his boxing too, so we have been talking about going to see a few fights together.

Computer game?

I was mad for Pro Evolution Soccer when I was younger. I don’t really play computer games anymore though.

Thing to do to relax away from football?

Sleep. Simple as.

Song?

Gabrielle, Dreams.

Band/Group/Artist?

I am going to say three different ones. Kings of Leon, Ed Sheeran and Ben Howard.

Favourite piece of advice you have ever been given?

I heard somebody say “here for a good time not for a long time” once. I liked it.

Car?

Lamborghini’s.

Book or magazine?

I read Diego Maradona’s autobiography and thought that that was excellent.

And finally… your favourite part of being at Albion?

It’s just a great club. There is always a good vibe about the place and everyone is always smiling. I think it is doing me good to be away from home too.
