Substitute made a positive impact against Liverpool
JAMES Morrison expressed his excitement at the prospect of seeing more of Callum McManaman, after the winger produced an eye-catching display against Liverpool.
The former Wigan man, who also celebrated his 24th birthday on Saturday, replaced Victor Anichebe after 63 minutes and caused the Reds’ defence all kinds of problems with his pace and trickery.
McManaman could have won the game for Tony Pulis’ side in the dying embers, but saw his shot from an acute angle inside the penalty area tuned behind for a corner by Simon Mignolet.
The Albion ace has been held back by a foot injury since arriving in January from the Latics, with his last first-team involvement before Saturday’s substitute appearance coming in the FA Cup defeat to Villa in early March.
And Morrison is glad to see the gifted youngster back in contention for a place in the starting line-up.
“Callum is an exciting player and he is learning every week,” said the 28-year-old.
“Once we get his fitness up he will be even better.
“He is eager to impress because he has been hampered with injury since he came in and I am sure he will be looking forward to having a few games now and then will look forward to next season.
“He wants to play.
“We joke about the fact we haven’t seen him since that FA Cup Final so he has got something to prove to show the fans what he is all about.
“He showed glimpses and if he gets his fitness up he will be a bonus for us.”
