Lescott delight at winning debut

Central defender claims Albion star man

JOLEON Lescott has spoken of his excitement at pulling on an Albion shirt for the first time in a competitive fixture.

The influential centre-back put in a man-of-the-match performance to help the Baggies triumph 1-0 over Tottenham at White Hart Lane this afternoon.

James Morrison headed the winner in north London while Lescott will also share the headlines after an extremely impressive debut.

It drew a line under what Lescott labelled as a “very frustrating” start to his time at the club having had to overcome calf and knee injuries since his summer arrival from Manchester City.

“I’ve been itching to play and it came today,” Lescott said.

“Before the game it was probably one of the most excited I’ve been before any game.

“It was nice to play and perform like that, the way we did as a team, and then obviously to get the result was extra special.”

Lescott added: “It was a massive result.

“We knew it extra special today and our main thing was to keep it as close as possible for as long as possible.

“When you do that away from home then there’s more pressure on the home team as the game comes to a close.

“First half, we were very pleased to go in at 0-0 and we knew we had to concentrate equally as much in the second half.

“Then, if you’ve got people putting in quality like Chris Brunt then you’ve just got to get on the end of it.”
