Albion duo celebrate Victory Shield success

Record-breaking four Baggies youngsters in tournament

ALBION Academy prospect Tyler Roberts last night captained Wales to outright Victory Shield glory for the first time since 1948/49.

The forward, joined in the squad by Baggies team-mate Adam Przybek, netted the opening goal in Wales’ 2-0 win over Northern Ireland in Ballymena, clinching a long-awaited triumph in the prestigious under-16 international tournament.

Having already seen off England and Scotland, Wales went into their final encounter needing only a draw to guarantee glory.

Yet Baggies frontman Roberts sent them on their way to all three points, his header helping to ensure Wales were sole winners of the competition for the first time in 66 years.

Albion enjoyed a record number of players in the 2014 Victory Shield, with a total of four representatives pulling on the colours of their nation and doing the club proud.

Jonathan Leko’s England finished in second place as they rounded off the competition last night with a 2-1 triumph over Dan Meredith’s Scotland, who ended up at the foot of the four-team table.

Huge congratulations to all four players involved!
