Mel plans resting on Morrison fitness

And boss reveals who will replace midfielder if he fails to make it

PEPE Mel is sweating on the fitness of James Morrison to see whether he can field an unchanged starting XI for the first time in his three-month reign.

The Baggies midfielder faces a late fitness test on an ankle injury to see if he will be available to face Tottenham on Saturday (ko 3pm).

Should Morrison fail to recover in time Mel has stated fit-again Chris Brunt will start in his place against Spurs.

The Baggies’ skipper has missed the last four games due to medial ligament damage he suffered against Manchester United just over a month ago.

But he returned to action earlier than expected in Sunday’s Under-21s 2-1 win over Fulham – getting a successful 61-minute run-out under his belt.

Mel said: "It shows two things, one, that we've got a very good medical department and, two, that Chris Brunt has worked very hard and shown he wants to help West Brom.

"And if in the end James Morrison can't start the game then Chris Brunt will start.

"James ended last weekend's game with a problem and what we don't want is for it to become a serious injury."
