Jones rues sloppy opening

Right-back’s return tempered by City reverse

BILLY Jones has spoken of Albion’s disappointment at making a slow start against Manchester City in their 3-1 defeat at the Etihad Stadium.

The Baggies found themselves a goal down after just three minutes courtesy of Pablo Zabaleta before Sergio Aguero doubled the hosts’ advantage with just ten minutes on the clock.

Graham Dorrans pulled one back but Martin Demichelis ensured City regained their two-goal advantage prior to what turned out to be a goalless second half.

Jones said: “In recent games we’ve been starting really well and that was the plan again here but it was poor from us, we’re really, really disappointed.

“We obviously wanted to get something here. Sunderland came here and did well and we were positive we could do the same.

“It was a really, really poor start and to give these guys a 2-0 head start it was always going to be a hard night.”

Despite the defeat there was some personal satisfaction for right-back Jones as he made his return from a hamstring injury which had kept him out of action for two months.
