Gannon goal in vain for U18s

'Soft' Baggies let lead slip in defeat at West Ham

PHIL Gannon’s first-half strike proved in vain as Albion Under-18s suffered a 2-1 defeat at West Ham yesterday.

The high-flying Hammers came from behind at the break to take all three points in the Barclays Under-18 Premier League clash.

Baggies Lead Professional Development Coach James Shan said: “Phil scored directly from a free-kick and for 25 minutes we were very good.

“I just told the boys to keep going at half-time but we conceded two poor goals and I was disappointed we didn’t show the mentality to respond to their pressure – we were too soft at times.”

ALBION: Palmer, Ezewelle, Donnellan, JP Jones (Hallahan 70), Smart, Gannon, Cleet, Leko (Cater 80), Barrow, McKenzie, Wright. Subs not used: Ross (gk), Sweeney, Buchannon.
