Boss gives Long and Sessegnon update

Clarke on chances of duo facing Sunderland

STEVE Clarke has revealed Shane Long is a doubt for next Saturday’s home clash with Sunderland (ko 3pm) after missing today’s 1-1 draw at Fulham due to injury.

The Republic of Ireland striker returned to The Hawthorns this week with a knee problem following international duty.

But Clarke insisted it is only a short-term concern for the striker, who started the opening three Barclays Premier League games of the campaign.

“Shane came back from Ireland injured, he’s got a problem that kept him out today and will make him doubtful for next week’s game,” said the Albion boss.

“I don’t think the diagnosis is any worse than that.

“It’s not something we’re looking at as a long-term injury.”

Clarke also explained the situation surrounding the work permit issue that prevented new signing Stephane Sessegnon being involved at Craven Cottage.

“When you transfer from one club to another you have to re-apply for your work permit,” he added.

“There was a little glitch in the process yesterday that delayed it and unfortunately for us he was not available for this game.

“Hopefully it will be resolved over the weekend or early next week at the latest and he’ll be available to face his old club next Saturday.”
