Old Trafford win scoops LMA accolade

Albion's 2-1 victory over United earns Performance-of-the-Week award

ALBION’S sensational 2-1 win at champions Manchester United has scooped the LMA Performance of the Week Award.

The League Managers Association five-man Performance-of-the-Week panel, comprising LMA Chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry, were in agreement this week’s honour should go to the Baggies following their first victory on United soil for almost 35 years.

Albion boss Steve Clarke will receive a specially engraved crystal football in a presentation to commemorate the award.

New loan signing Morgan Amalfitano opened the scoring with a superb individual goal in the 54th minute for the visitors before Wayne Rooney levelled three minutes later.

Saido Berahino then scored his first-ever Barclays Premier League goal – and what proved to be the match-winner in the 67th minute.

After the match, Clarke said: "I said before the game we had a good team and we were coming here to be positive.

"I just hope the focus is on how good Albion were not how poor Manchester United were.

“We were terrific.

"We didn't come to sit in and defend, we came to win.

“The reception my players got off the Manchester United fans says it all."
