Clarke: Morgan has appetite for success

And boss gives insight into how Berahino has reacted to Old Trafford glory

STEVE Clarke believes Morgan Amalfitano’s work ethic is the key reason he has settled so swiftly into Barclays Premier League life.

The on-loan Marseille midfielder followed up an impressive debut in the 1-1 draw at Fulham with a starring role - and first Albion goal - in a 3-0 win over Sunderland.

And he hit the headlines with a wonder-goal in Saturday’s 2-1 win at champions Manchester United – only his third game in English football.

“Morgan’s come in,” said the Baggies boss.

“He’s worked the way we expected him to work and all three outfield deadline-day signings have come in and been a breath of fresh air.

“You can see from recent performances that everyone is keen and motivated to do well.

“I think it’s nice that Morgan has done well.

“When you come from a different league sometimes it can take a bit of time to find your feet.

“But he’s hit the ground running, which is good for us and good for Morgan.

“If you watched him play at Marseille you would understand why he has settled so quickly into English football, because he works ever so hard in games.

“And I think in the English Premier League you have to have players who are prepared to work really hard.

“Morgan has always shown that appetite for the game.”

Meanwhile, Clarke has given an insight into how youngster Saido Berahino has reacted to making his first-ever Barclays Premier League goal a winner at Old Trafford.

“It’s important Saido remains grounded and we remain grounded about Saido and where he is," the Albion chief added.

“He’s been the same this week.

“We trained this morning after I gave the players two days off and he did what he normally does in training – he keeps scoring!

“He shoots from everywhere and he scores a lot of goals.

“He’s understandably quite pleased with himself and he should be.

“We’ll keep his feet on the ground.”
