And Benin international thanks Baggies fans for their support following big move
STEPHANE Sessegnon admits he is enjoying the pressure of being the club’s record signing – and insists: “There’s more to come from me.”
The Benin international was speaking after picking up the Zoopla Player-of-the-Month award for October after finishing top of a fans’ Facebook poll.
And he was quick to thank the Baggies supporters for their support since joining the club on transfer deadline day.
“It is very encouraging that the supporters have noticed and had faith in me from the start,” said Sessegnon.
“I am obviously very pleased the fans like me.
“There is a certain pressure to perform very well because of the price tag.
“But it’s a positive pressure because it shows the club think I'm worth it.
“I believe I can bring more to the club.
“This is still the settling period and I will show more as time goes by.”
The 29-year-old ace feels he is settling in well to life at The Hawthorns after two years at his first club in England – Sunderland.
“I feel well,” he added.
“It was quite difficult to make the change because I was at Sunderland for two years.
“And Sunderland were the first club who welcomed me from France.
“I have a strong connection and relationship with some people there.
“But now I have made a good start here and I feel good.
“It’s going well because I’ve come to a club where I knew some of the players already.
“That has helped me settle down quickly.
“I was in a hotel for two months to start with, which was a little bit difficult but now I have a house in Sutton Coldfield, so it’s better.”
Sessegnon fired his second goal of the campaign in Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Chelsea and he is now relishing his first taste of a West Midlands derby against Villa on Monday week (ko 8pm).
“It is difficult but you have to forget about it, prepare for the next match and not let it drag you down,” he said, following the Blues’ controversial last-gasp penalty equaliser at Stamford Bridge.
“We want to fight and win the next one, whether it’s Aston Villa or anyone.”
