SCA Ladies throw away two-goal lead

Baggies miss chance to break into top four

SPORTING Club Albion Ladies missed the chance to move into the top four of the FA Women’s Northern Premier League after a 2-2 draw with Derby County Ladies on Sunday.

Kayleigh Griffiths opened the scoring for the Baggies on 20 and just after half-time Albion doubled their lead through Louise Fellows.

But the visitors managed to pull two goals back in the final third of the match to pinch a point.

The Baggies move into fifth, but manager Dave Lawrence was disappointed his side let a two-goal advantage slip.

“I thought we did well to get a two-goal lead, realistically I’m not sure we deserved it, but you hope you can hang on,” he said.

“We surrendered it very easily and we did look to press and try and nick a winner - but we left it too late.

“It feels like a defeat in some respects because we got ourselves into a very strong position but a couple of sloppy mistakes let Derby in and any half-decent team will take advantage.”
