Ladies run riot in County Cup

Gerhold and James hit hat-tricks

SPORTING Club Albion Ladies progressed to the Birmingham County Cup third round after a 9-0 drubbing of Kingshurst Sporting Club.

A first half hat-trick from Ellie Gerhold, along with two goals from Robyn James, put the Baggies five up at the break.

The visitors added four more in the second half courtesy of Siobhan Hodgetts, Francesca Boggi and Jemma Connor-Iommi, while James completed her hat-trick with less than two minutes left to play.

Manager Dave Lawrence said: “It was important to be professional; the first couple of rounds of the County Cup are going to be the cup final for many of the sides playing against us.

“We gave some of our fringe players some minutes and to be fair to the girls that came in, they did particularly well.

“They were given a chance and they took it really well.”

Last season the Baggies made it all the way to the final of the competition but were defeated by Coventry City Ladies.
